A late night dryer fire at the Onsen For All Day Spa caused minor damage. At around 11:30 pm this evening, the Kingston Fire Department was dispatched for a smoke alarm at the Spa located at 4451 Route 27 in the Franklin Township section of Kingston. Upon arrival of Kingston Engine 39-4, Lieutenant Rob Weissman and his crew observed a smoke condition inside the building. Lt. Weissman immediately requested a First Alarm assignment through the Somerset County Communications Center. Then the crew from 39-4 along with the crew from Little Rocky Hill Engine 41-1, proceeded into the structure with a hose line.
At this time Kingston Fire Chief Lloyd Mathis and Kingston Engine 39-3 arrived on location. The two interior crews were able to discover that the cause of the smoke was from towels burning inside the dryer located in the basement of the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished and the crew from Engine 39-3 set up fans for ventilation. After checking for extension, the fire was placed under control. This marked the third fire of the day for the Kingston Crews.
In addition to the Kingston and Little Rocky Hill Fire Departments, crews from the Rocky Hill, Kendall Park, Plainsboro, Griggstown and Montgomery #2 Fire Departments were dispatched for the call.
